Mom went to visit a heart specialist today, to entertain her options for a defibrillator. After spending some time with him, they decided to forgo the procedure for now. Having both cancer and congestive heart failure complicates each other, making the procedure more difficult than an otherwise normal situation. The reality is that the risk of sudden death is more probable the weaker her heart becomes. We're thankful that it took almost 12 years for her heart to progress to this point, so we're living by faith that it will be protected from worsening anytime soon. Truth be told, death is inevitable for all of us. And while I will continue to believe that my mom will live forever, none of us are promised tomorrow. Taking this step is risky, no doubt. But having the procedure is not fool-proof either, and there is no guarantee that it would serve her any better than her own heart is now. More than that, if mom's cancer ever progressed she would be unable to receive radiation because of the damage it would cause to the defibrillator. Mom is scheduled to have a CT scan with her next Oncologist appointment in three months, so we'll revisit the situation then to see if she should go ahead with the procedure. For now, we're taking it day by day...blindly living by faith that our God is in charge of every beat her heart takes. We covet your prayers, and remain thankful for every day together.

God did not plan for us to live here on earth forever...shocking me with a defibrillator will not change his plans nor would I want to..every day is precious!
